Following the awards banquet on Thursday night, the #12 ranked Boise State opened the tournament with a hard fought 3-1 win over #20 San Diego State University. The next day the Broncos looked poised to make a run at their first title taking on the top seed from the North, Cal Berkeley. The Broncos battled hard and were able to take the
Semi-Final by the score of 4-1. After securing their first ever championship berth, the Broncos were set to take on the Ducks from Oregon who they split their regular season series with 1 game a piece. In a hard fought battle Boise State found themselves down 1-0 headed into the third, the Broncos comeback were going to need to mount a comeback if they wanted to win their first ever conference title. The comeback effort fell short when Oregon scored with just under 2 minutes left in the game and netted an empty net goal to secure a 3-0 win. With the win, the #6 ranked Ducks were able to secure their second straight Pac-8 Conference title.
The #12 ranked Broncos will find out their destiny this Thursday, February 13th when the ACHA will reveal the final rankings for the season. Even after falling to Oregon, the 3-1 win over SDSU and 4-1 win over Cal still gives the Broncos a chance at making the regional tournament as long as they do not fall out of the top 12 in the west. If Boise State does indeed stay in the top 12, they will play in the West Region Finals being held in Boise over the weekend of Feb 27-Mar 1.
