DARRELL HAY JOINS BRONCO COACHING STAFF



Darrell Hay will be serving as an assistant coach for the upcoming season. The 39 year old Kamloops, B.C. native will bring a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to our staff and club. Hay played his junior hockey for the Tri-City Americans of the WHL. In his 4 years as an American, Darrell solidified himself as one of the most accomplished defensemen in team history. He was selected with the 271st pick of the 1999 NHL entry draft by the Vancouver Canucks. Darrell signed with Vancouver and spent 3 seasons in their farm system. He then made the move to Boise to join the Steelhead organization where he helped lead the team to two Kelly Cup Championships in 2004 and 2007. Hay would then take his career to Europe where he spent the last 8 years of his 16 year professional career. Darrell transitioned into coaching in 2016 and has coached at the pro and Jr A. levels. He holds certification from Hockey Canada as a High Performance Coach and through USA Hockey as a Level 4 coach. Darrell and his wife Casey live in east Boise where they raise their 2 children Sofia and Jaxson. Darrell works at the City of Boise in the Parks and Recreation Department where he helps build the Ice Pilot youth hockey program at Idaho Ice World. In his spare time he enjoys exploring Boise and the great state of Idaho with his family and is a motorcycle enthusiast who loves to ride when time and weather permit.
